Today, companies are constantly urged to drastically reduce their carbon footprint. By trading in a wide variety of renewable energy products, STX enables businesses to achieve this goal. In doing so, we contribute to a more transparent environmental commodities market and, therefore, a greener world. We’re looking for a Emissions Market Analyst to join our business and the extremely dynamic market we operate in, and to embark on a journey with us towards a better tomorrow.
TEAM AND ROLE
Since 2005, STX has been a leader in many of the individual environmental commodity markets and today we are one of the most experienced and recognized players in the space. Through this footprint and experience we have unrivalled insights into what drives these environmental commodity markets (policy changes, changes in fundamental supply and demand, price movements etc.), providing a significant competitive edge to new entrants into our markets. The Emissions Market Analyst will work together with various business lines to develop short to long-term assessments of future environmental commodities demand growth at the sectoral level, understanding the main drivers and key uncertainties.
Data Collection and Analysis:
- Collect and analyze emissions data from various sources (carbon, methane…) for key sectors and keep track of the development of new MRV frameworks and new markets.
- Lead the build-out and maintenance of a database to track emission reduction pledges, targets, and action (including the development of new emission standards and other initiatives from commercial and institutional buyers).
- Articulate how policy, regulatory frameworks, and standards affect the commoditization of methane and carbon emissions standards. Model which commodities will be the ‘winners’ and ‘losers’ of new policies and regulations.
- Assess the nature and scale of the potential extraterritorial impact of EU and US emission reduction policies (e.g. CBAM, IRA)
- Manage data sources and conversion factors within the trading, policy research, and analytics teams to ensure accurate reporting and consistent assumptions across the organization.
- Utilize advanced analytical tools and methodologies to interpret emissions data and identify trends, patterns, and anomalies within regions, sectors, and supply chains
Trading Strategy:
- Collaborate with trading teams to develop new trading ideas based on emissions data, and market and policy trends.
- Provide insights and recommendations to enhance trading performance and mitigate market-related risks.
Thought leadership:
- Prepare comprehensive, thought-provoking market analyses and research reports to present to internal stakeholders and external clients.
- Represent the organization in industry forums, conferences, and working groups related to emissions trading and markets.
- Provide mentorship and coaching to other analysts.
